Anambra closes traffic agency over okada rider’s death

The Anambra State Government in South-East Nigeria has indefinitely closed the branch of its traffic agency, ASTA, in Ogidi, Idemili Local Area of the state.

The closure came on the heels of an accusation levelled against the unit for being responsible for the death of a commercial motorcyclist locally known as okada.

According to the state Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chike Ohamobi, the closure was necessary to give room for proper investigation into what killed the okada rider whose identity could not be immediately ascertained.

He refuted the rumour making the rounds that a couple also lost their lives in the accident that claimed the life of the okada rider.

The commissioner disclosed that security agents have been directed to oversee activities in the motor parks in Onitsha and environs to ensure peace.

He also said that the unwholesome behaviour of some of the youths of the present age has gone beyond pardon, warning that government will not sit by and watch people take laws into their hands.

The commissioner revealed that a committee has been set up to ensure that state levies for parks in the state are duly collected until the issue is resolved.
