Nigeria’s ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has suspended Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State for alleged anti-party activities, according to information reaching News Express.
A source who broke the news to News Express did not confirm whether the suspension is from the party’s state chapter or from the national headquarters in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
As reported yesterday by News Express and other media, the Rivers State PDP has disowned Amaechi and recognised Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State as chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF).
Both Governor Jang and Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State (who was seeking re-election) are laying claim to the position since Friday’s disputed ballot in the Nigerian capital, Abuja. Amaechi claims to have won with 19 votes against 16 for Jang but 19 governors promptly disassociated themselves from him, saying they voted for Jang.
Amaecih’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. David Iyofor, said he was in a meeting when News Express called him for his reaction and asked for a text message, which was promptly sent to him. He however did not immediately reply the message.
