The 2023 Anambra State Football Association (FA) Cup tournament has entered the round of 16.
The tournament, which kicked off on March 1, 2023 with four female teams and 36 male teams, is being played in four centres in the state: Awka Stadium; Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha; Rojenny Stadium, Oba; and NEROS Stadium, Nanka. The competition is sponsored by Chief Pauly Emenike, Chairman, NEROS Pharmaceuticals.
Eight matches were played across the four match centres on Wednesday. Global FC floored the oldest team in Anambra State, Obosi United, 3-0 at Rojenny Stadium.
In the second match at the Oba venue, Galaxy FC beat Sanky FC through penalty shootout that ended 4-1, taking them to the next round.
At the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha, Obeledu United defeated Young Olive Charles FC 2-0.
The second match which was more keenly contested between De Wilson and Anambra Rovers ended in favour of De Wilson FC by lone goal.
Nanka Stadium played host to two matches. The first was between Ndukamma FC and Black Smithers FC and ended with Ndukamma defeating Black Smithers by one unreplied goal.
The second match played between Hopeland FC of Nnewi and DOSAD FA of Enugu-Ukwu ended in penalty shootout won by Hepeland FC.
At the Awka City Stadium, football fans were equally treated to the very best of the round leather game as Big T Global squared it out with Ochomma FC. After 90 minutes of play Ochomma FC took the glory with one goal against their opponent that scored nil.
The second match had Dominion City FC of Achala defeating Uncle Raph FC 4-2.
The competition entered the Round of 16 yesterday (Thursday) and continues till Sunday, March 12.
The State FA has urged football lovers, stakeholders in the state to go to the nearest stadium and enjoy the best of football made in the state, under the leadership of Chikelue Iloenyosi.
