President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Augustine Alegeh, SAN, on Thursday presented a compendium of books on ant-corruption, compiled by its anti-corruption commission, to the anti-sleaze agencies, such as the Presidential Commission on Ant-Corruption, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC), among others. The event, which was part of activities to mark the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day, was held at the conference room, NBA House, Abuja.
In his opening remark, Chairman of NBA’s Anti-Corruption Commission, Dr T C Osanakpo, SAN, recalled: “As part of our engagement process and advocacy programme – we anchored a conference in Abuja within four months of our inauguration – to brainstorm on how best to address corruption issues in our clime. The overriding objective is to evolve a process and a system to assist the anti-corruption agencies and related bodies on ways and means to duly and effectively tackle corruption issues with dispatch. Sequel to this exercise, we put together a platform during the NBA Annual General Conference in August 2015, at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, to further brainstorm on how best to tackle corruption issues in Nigeria.”
He noted that the two brainstorming sessions culminated in the publication of the two books that were unveiled this morning by the NBA president. “It is our fervent view that these compendium of books will be of immense assistance to the relevant bodies and agencies in their tasks towards effective discharge of their mandates on corruption in Nigeria,” he said.
