It is a tale of confusion as the camps of Jonah Jang and Chibuike Amaechi are both claiming victory in this evening’s election of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
Following information from usually reliable sources, News Express had broken the story of the victory of Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang as the new NGF Chairman and Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State as his Deputy.
However, shortly after we reported the story, contradictory information came that Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, relying on last-minute intrigues, had succeeded in winning over enough PDP Governors to triumph and thus retain his position.
But disputing the cliam, the PDP Governors Forum led by Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State just addressed a press conference at the Akwa Ibom State Governors Lodge in Abuja, insisting that Jang won and is the new NGF Chairman.
The implication is that there are now two chairmen for the NGF. News Express is closely following the developing factionalisation of the forum and will continue to serve updates.
