The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has challenged airspace managers across the country on the need to ensure maximum operational safety as the Christmas and New Year celebrations draw near.

Mr Ibrahim Abdulsalam, the Managing Director of NAMA, gave the challenge in the Monday weekly publication of the agency’s Corporate Affairs Department.

Abdulsalam also urged traffic managers to embark on measures to strengthen air traffic management and surveillance systems in their respective domains.

The publication stressed that extra vigilance was necessary now because of the usual upsurge in traffic and increased tempo in airport activities during the yuletide.

It urged stakeholders to build upon the present achievements by maintaining safety of air navigation in the country and ensure zero tolerance for aviation incidents.

The publication also quoted Abdulsalam as calling for synergy among airspace managers and the need for peer review to put all operations nationwide on the same page.

“The recent effort by NAMA to digitalise air traffic management services in the country is targeted at ensuring that the nation’s airspace conforms to global safety standards.

“He, therefore, urged airspace managers to imbibe the culture of collaborative engagement that would engender the needed peer review and enhanced safety.” (NAN)
