The Federal Government has announced plans to launch a national security campaign as part of efforts to sustain the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed, said this in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, while he led a delegation on an assessment tour to some parts of the North-East state occupied by the Boko Haram militant group.
Mr. Mohammed called on Nigerians to take possession of the successes recorded by the nation’s military in the fight against the dreaded militants.
He assured the citizens that the security agencies would meet the Federal government’s deadline of bringing activities of the terrorists to the barest minimum by the end of the year.
In his speech, the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, appealed to residents of the state to team up with security agencies in the fight against insurgents saying the worst was over and the state was already on a path of reconstruction and rehabilitation.
The Minister also visited the palace of the Emir of Bama, who was sacked by the terrorists in Bama Local Government Area.
With the ongoing reconstruction efforts of the Borno State government to resettle the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the Federal government delegation stopped over at the largest IDP camp in Bama to commiserate with the people.
The Theatre Commander and General Officer Commanding the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army, General Yushau Abubakar, who accompanied the Minister, also used the opportunity to highlight the successes so far recorded by the military and some of their challenges.
