It is on good source that some showbiz celebrities have ran afoul of the law and have been sent to prison, just like any commoner. Today, we parade five celebrated showbiz persons who have been previously jailed. They are: Dammy Kraine, Naira Marley, Uche Odoputa, Skales and Yewande Wunmi
DAMMY KRAINE
Celebrated youth act, Johnson Oyindamola, otherwise called Dammy Kraineon the beats scene, was said to have been hooked in farawayFlorida over charges of theft and credit card scam on Friday, June 2, 2017. His problem, we gathered, started when an AmericanJet company, Tapjets, accused him of using five different cards that did not belong to him while trying to book a private jet. However, he was let off the hook after not pleading guilty and meeting up their bail condition, with 7, 500 dollars. He was, however, assigned an attorney and tried by a jury.Fortunately for him, the charges were formallystruck out by an American Court in August2017.
NAIRA MARLEY
This highly controversial actclimbed into focus suddenly throughtrumped-up negative media publicity money laundering charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).He was arrested with four others, a day after the release of his hot single, “Am I a yahoo boy?” which he dropped on line.
Afterwards, he was reportedly and formally slammed with 1-count charge after spendingdays in Ikoyi prison from where he was taken straight to the court and granted bail in the sum of N2million with one suretyin like sum.
After his release, a video surfaced on line, where he openlyclaimed that he was arrested 124 times in the United Kingdom (UK) where he grew up. He instantlybecame a celebrity when he pushed out his “Issa Goal” in 2018 which showcasedOlamide, Falz, Simi and Lil Kesh that year.
UCHE ODOPUTA
Award-winning actor, Uche Odoputa, ironically suffered a fate’s cruelty when he was caught publicly at the Murtala Mohammed InternationalAirport, Lagos, with cocaine and was arrested in 2007. He was sentenced to eight months in prison.
During his confession, he blamed his fate that made what he got from acting look pitiably meagre which made it easy for his friends stationed abroad to talk him into the deal. Odoputa who lamented his shameful act that actuallybrought his name and that of his family into disrepute, maintained that he has now realized the place of self-control in the life of anybody who cares aboutthe saying that good name is better than riches.
He, however,thanked the lateProducer and Director of Fuji House of commotion, late Amaka Igwe, who paid for his legal fee when and while it mattered.He prayed for the repose of her soul.
SKALES
This sensationalNigerian rapper whose real name isRaoal John Njeng-Njeng, celebrated as Skales on the beats scene, got himself into trouble when heallegedlyganged up with his former Manager, Osagie in 2016 to divert the funds of his recordingcompany. He was detained for some time, before the Police released him, leaving his Manager behind. However,they also unchained him (Manager) much more later.
YEWANDE WUNMI
That ishername in Nollywood, although the front seat occupier was born as TaiwoAkinwande years back. She ran afoul of the law when she was caught at the Murtala MuhammedInternationalAirport in 2006withsubstance strongly believed to be hard drug. As a result, the eagle-eyed security operatives bounced on the offending and celebrated actress, whisking her away. She was later interrogated and charged to court formally.After her prosecution, she was sentenced as expected. Wunmi, who no doubt went throughthe greatest disgrace of her life, later served three years jail term. After her incarceration, the demeaning and psychological effect forced her to recoil socially, and this forced hercareerto nose dive till date.
