Breaking News: Jonathan, Ghanaian President arrive Ogidi for Achebe’s burial

Nigeria’s President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has arrived Ogidi, Anambra State in South-East Nigeria, for the burial of literary giant, Prof. Chinua Achebe.

Ghanaian President John Mahama has also arrived for the event, according to News Express can confirm.

Several other dignitaries cutting across various fields of human endeavour have equally arrived to witness the burial of one of the world’s best known novelists whose epochal novel Things Fall Apart has been translated into some 50 languages across the world.

Achebe will be buried in his family compound after a funeral service at St. Philip’s Anglican Church,

The body of Achebe, who died March 31 in his United States base, aged 82, was flown home early yesterday morning, straight to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, from where it was flown to Enugu after a church service at the airport. The body was moved to Awka, the Anambra State capital, after a Special Senate Session and Academic Procession in Achebe’s honour by the University of Nigeria, where he taught until a road accident forced him to relocate to the USA. The funeral continued yesterday with a “Celebration of Life” of Achebe at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, organised by the Anambra State Government in association with other South-East governors.
