Newly posted Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shuaibu Lawal Gambo has said that the force had lost over 1,000 of its men to the insurgency in the North-East.

CP Gambo, who disclosed this at a courtesy visit to Governor Kashim Shettima at the Government House, Maiduguri, yesterday, said Borno State would soon witness a lasting peace.

He said he was determined to work assiduously to ensure the insurgency that had been ravaging the country was brought to an end within the stipulated December deadline given by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The IGP has given me a mandate to come and serve the people of Borno State. By God`s will we will work hard to see that Borno regains its lost glory as ‘Home of Peace,’ ” said the police boss.

He commended the good people of Borno State for cooperating with the security agencies by giving useful information, and urged them to continue the good work, adding that

the State Government also within its meagre resources had assisted the police and other security agencies in the discharge of their duties.

Responding, Governor Shettima said with the new commissioner’s background as the immediate past commissioner in charge of Counter Terrorism, he believed that the IGP was putting a round peg in a round hole and that he would bring his experience to bear in bringing to an end the insurgency.

“The Borno State Government will continue to give the police all necessary support to succeed, as no meaning full development could be achieve without peace,” the governor said.

Shettima requested the police high command to equip the police in the state with sophisticated weapons, as the Boko Haram insurgents have more sophisticated weapons

He said the state government had procured 40 Hilux vehicles, renovated Benisheik, Gwange and Jakana Police Stations, assuring that the government would continue to support the police to achieve their mandate of protecting lives and properties and maintenance of law and order. (Nigerian Pilot)
