IPOB gives deadline for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, vows to march to Aso Rock

Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday vowed to march to Aso Rock, Nigeria seat of power in Abuja, next week if Nnamdi Kanu, their leader and Director of Radio Biafra, is not released by then.

“By next week, if the Federal Government does not release our leader, Nnamdi Kanu, we shall all march this way to Aso Rock, to advance this cause. We are over 10,000 here now,” said the National Coordinator of IPOB, Chidiebere Onwudiwe.

He spoke as IPOB once more took to the major roads of the commercial city of Onitsha, Anabra State, and its environs in another peaceful protest

The protesters came from Awka, Nnewi and Asaba. They gathered in Onitsha at about 9am and, in a procession, headed for the Niger Bridge Head, which since the protest began has been used as their rallying point.

Those in Onitsha during their match from Nkpor to the Bridge Head caused serious deadlock that kept vehicles at a standstill for hours.

While at the Onitsha end of the River Niger Bridge, the protesters disregarded the presence of soldiers and carried on with their solidarity songs for Nnamdi Kanu.

The soldiers, however, ensured that the protesters made way for easier flow of traffic.

Addressing journalists, Mr, Onwudiwe, who was flanked by the group’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, said the protest was deemed necessary because of the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu and the continued marginalisation of the South-East and South-South geo-political zones by the Federal Government.

He maintained that the protest would continue, saying: “Nobody can stop us, even the soldiers who are asking us to disperse are being funny because we are non-violent and cannot be intimidated.”
