Midnight fire kills 7 at Kano female boarding school

At least seven students were killed and 25 others injured last when fire engulfed one of the hostels at Government Secondary School, Jogana, Kano State.

A BBC report quoted unnamed officials as saying that most of the victims died as a result of stampede while trying to escape through two exits at the hostel.

The whole hostel was completely gutted by the blaze, and it took fire-fighters hours to bring it under control, the report said.

It said that the school has been closed and authorities have ordered a full investigation into the cause of the fire.
