Some flats of the Mobile Police Force Squadron 8 in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, was gutted by fire late Thursday night with property worth millions of naira destroyed.
No life was lost in the inferno but occupants of the flats could not salvage anything from the affected buildings as documents, electronics, household materials and other domestic materials were consumed in the fire incident which was attributed to high power voltage from the electricity supply company.
The fire left four blocks of flats burnt before it was eventually curtailed by the combined fire services of the Air Force and government house fire management officers.
The inferno occurred while the police officers occupying the affected flats were on duty with only some family members indoors. The clothing on the victims were all they were able to come out with.
The Plateau State Police Commissioner, Adekunle Oladunjoye, after assessing the level of damage, explained that a temporary accommodation would be provided for the affected families while other details concerning compensations for the affected officers are being looked into. (Channels TV)
