The joint military operation, Operation Pulo Shield, deployed to protect oil installation in the Niger Delta, has been commended for its Zero Tolerance Campaign against Oil Theft.
A statement issued by the Spokesman of Operation Pulo Shield, Lt-Col. Isa Ado, on Friday in Yenagoa said the team has been able to address illegal oil bunkering and sundry crimes.
The statement said that Mr Banfred Enjugu, Managing Director, Port Harcourt Refining Company, gave the commendation during a visit of the leadership of the operation to Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) in Rivers.
It said that the Commander of Operation Pulo Shield, Maj.-Gen. Alani Okunlola, concluded a working visit to NNPC and Petroleum Pipeline Marketing Company (PPMC) in Port Harcourt, Rivers.
The statement said effective patrol along the waterways of the Niger Delta by Operation Pulo Shield has gone a long way to checkmate the activities of oil thieves in the region.
According to the statement, the patrols have increased production capacity of oil companies operating in Nigeria.
It called for the deployment of more troops in Okirika area to checkmate pipeline vandalism and kidnapping targeted at some of the staff of the corporation.
