Scores of people are feared dead following a bomb blast in a Shi’ite procession in Dakasoye village in Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State. Though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, it is believed to be the handiwork of Boko Haram terrorists.
A Daily Trust report quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Muhammad Katsina, as confirming the incident.
“Although he declined to state the number of casualties, Katsina said the police was still trying to defuse another bomb planted ahead of the procession,” the report said.
“We are at the moment trying to defuse another bomb which was planted ahead of the procession along the road,” Mr. Katsina reportedly said, disclosing that the incident happened around 2p.m. Shi’ite Spokesman Ibrahim Usman, however, said the incident happened around 2:30 p.m.
The report said that 20 persons, among them women and children, were feared killed and more than 50 injured in the bomb attack.
