Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue said he is yet to be given the staff of office of Tor Tiv to hold as required by tradition until a new man ascends the throne.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the former occupant of the stool, Alfred Torkula, died on Monday in a private hospital in Gboko.
Ortom told newsmen in Makurdi on Tuesday that the traditional rites necessary for the handover of the staff of office were yet to be completed.
NAN reports that the process was slated to hold on Tuesday at the Government House but postponed indefinitely. He said the event would hold at a later date.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports some of power blocs in Tivland, interested in fielding candidates for the stool, have started lobbying.
The first occupant of the stool was Makir Dzekpe, who hailed from Jeichira in present day Vandeikya Local Government Council of the state.
Dzekpe was succeeded by Mallam Gondo Aluor, who hailed from Sankera in present day Logo Local Government Council of the state.
Aluor was succeeded by Akperan Orshi, who was from Jemgbagh in present day Gboko Local Government Council.
Orshi was succeeded by the deceased Alfred Torkula who was installed in 1991 and reigned until 2015. (NAN)
