Pensioners in Osun State are appealing to the state government to pay the outstanding allowances owed some of their members.
The leadership of ‘Pensioners in Ife-Ijesa Senatorial district’ claimed that the Osun State Government had not paid some arrears to the pensioners, especially those who served in primary schools.
Addressing reporters in Ile-Ife, the Chairman of the Union, Sumola Odefisayo, accused the government of not disbursing the bailout fund given to it by the Federal Government as stipulated.
According to him, the pensioners rejected the bi-monthly verification exercise introduced by the Osun State Government, describing it as “a rigorous exercise” for the older citizens.
However, the State Government debunked the non-payment of pensions to the pensioners, saying the government had cleared the salaries of workers, as well as pensions till the month of August, as agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the government and the leadership of Labour Union in the state.
The Chief of Staff to the State Government, Gboyega Oyetola, appealed to the pensioners to join hands with the government, stressing that the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola is committed to the welfare of its people and will never deliberately withhold what is due to the pensioners and workers.
