Four Marvin Records music celebs on parade

•Marvin Records boss, Don Jazzy

By IFECHI OKOH

Celebrated Marvin Records label which berthed over night was simply a child of circumstance. It actually came into being when the Don of the Nigerian beats scene, Don Jazzy, suddenly fell out with former Mohits Records co-founder and friend too, D.Banj. That dramatic happening, shocked every keen showbiz follower. As a result, nobody ever thought that Don Jazzy would survive the psychological know off effect. However, Don sprang a surprise by riding on with the setting up of Marvin Records which took the centre stage boldly within the shortest possible time frame. Jazzy’s magic may have jumped out from his thoughtful and careful selection of some highly gifted acts who were poised to do their best so that Marvin Records will fill the vacuum pitiably created by the sudden death of Mohits Records. Today, Showbiz Xtra is parading the four talented acts who made this magic possible, starting from Tiwa Savage, Korede Bello, Reekardo Banks, Dr Sid.

TIWA SAVAGE: This celebrated songstress, is obviously talented in the act of song writing and singing. She capped these with her natural charisma, magnetting the attention of music followers and fans. Little wonder the queen of afro R/B has been able to hold her head high till date, as lead act on the Marvin Records label. A case in point of her musical gift was demonstrated in the penning of the fine song, “Eminado”, in which she featured Don Jazzy.

KOREDE BELLO: The first thing about this young man which is bound to blow anybody's mind was that Bello started to show signs of promise from youth as somebody really cut out for the music concern by simply learning most instruments. This was how God exposed and stamped him just at 19years, when he came onboard the Mohits Records which suddenly metamorphosed into Marvin Records owned by Don Jazzy. Immediately he joined others, his talent in music was expedient. Bello’s worth on the label was accentuated by his ability to write good songs and rendered them too well, with his melodious voice. For instance, was his hit number, “Godwin”, which became an instant national item on the beats scene. It’s on good source that this song, not only put the young man on the dais, but also fetched Marvin Records attention and respect. Hence, Jazzy appears to show a lot of respect and soft spot for him till date.

REEKARDO BANKS: Bank's obvious gift in song writing, arrangements and rendition zoomed to the fore in no time when he joined the league of Celebrities on the label. That was how he activated himself pretty fast on Marvin Records podium. Hence every of his releases were embraced by followers, extending such acknowledgement to his label and producer, Don Jazzy. This on the long run, explains why Marvin Records hit fame much earlier than expected. His refreshingly different song writing style may have gone a long way in this matter.

DR SID: This gifted son of the late top actor, Justus Esiri, is the only musician on the beats scene, who is a qualified dentist. Luckily for him, he has an array of songs people can easily applaud. Looking at his songs, they are inspiring, inviting to the dance floor and most importantly, well arranged. One thing about him, is the unpredictability of them. His style of singing is the free type one, where he does it in the most relaxed mood, yet the song itself is vibrant. A typical example is “Eja kajijo Kabiyesi”.  Interestingly, the theme of his songs are very simple.  All these contrasts stamped him as a professional, which he may have acquired during his three years tutelage under the defunct Trybesmen band where he did a back-up vocals job and even danced there too.
