Army investigates photograph of soldiers allegedly massacred by Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army says it is investigating a photograph trending online and purported to be that of the country’s troops allegedly massacred earlier this week by Boko Haram insurgents in Gudumbali and Kareto towns of Borno State.

Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said in a statement issued in the wee hours of today: “The Nigerian Army would like to inform the public that it is aware of a photograph of alleged “Slain missing soldiers” released by an obscure online news medium called “Large News Live” trending on the social media. This is not correct.

“Nevertheless, the Nigerian Army is investigating it with a view to unravel its source and motive. We wish to reiterate however that the troops of 157 Task Force Battalion have reorganised and are now continuing their operations against the Boko Haram terrorists.”
