State Governors take stand against MTN, say it must pay N1.04 Trillion NCC fine

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has thrown its weight behind industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), telling it not to lower the record-breaking N1.04 Trillion fine recently slammed on industry leader MTN for failing to deactivate unregistered SIM cards.

A Channels TV report said the governors discussed the fine during their meeting held last night in Abuja attended by least 22 governors or their representatives.

“The Forum met with the Acting Executive Vice Chairman of the commission and they pledged to work with the commission to ensure that the telecommunication company paid the fine.

They expressed satisfaction with the commission over the fine and insisted that there would be no leeway,” the report said.

“The governors also said the law should be obeyed fully and that the fine should be paid,” the report added.
