Troops of 101 Task Force Battalion, 7 Division Garrison, along Lagos Street Maiduguri, Borno State, yesterday arrested yet another declared wanted Boko Haram terrorist leader, Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said this evening. “The suspect, who gave his name as Abubakar Sadiq, works as night watchman to one Muhammad Daggash. A closer look at him shows that he was suspect number 28 among the suspected Boko Haram terrorists that were declared by the Nigerian Army last month,” Col. Usman said in a statement.
He announced that, also yesterday, the Nigeria Police, Borno State Command, arrested yet another suspected Boko Haram kingpin, Mohammed Usman, at Abuja Talakawa Ward of Maiduguri metropolis. “The suspect, who marches the photograph of suspect Number 40 on the poster containing the photographs of the 100 wanted suspected Boko Haraam terrorists, was arrested after painstaking effort and tracking by the police. There is no doubt that the arrests of the suspected terrorists are important milestones which show the synergy of effort in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria among the security agencies and the public,” Col. Usman.
“The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai commended the vigilant troops and the Nigeria Police in particular, Borno State Command, for their great efforts. The Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate that as we move for the final onslaught against Boko Haram terrorists, there is the urgent need for all of us to be more vigilant and security conscious,” the Army Spokesman added.
He also confirmed that Boko Haram terrorists made spirited attempt to attack troops’ location at Mada in the early hours of Monday morning, using 3 VBIED but the attack was successfully repelled. According to Col. Usman, “During the attack which was meant to thwart the troops advancement, 26 terrorists were killed while 3 soldiers sustained injuries. In addition, the troops recovered 1 VBIED loaded with IED material, 2 AK-47, 111 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) and 2 RPG bombs.
“Similarly, troops of 21 Brigade had also on fighting patrol at Firgi killed 3 Boko Haram terrorists rescued 3 women and recovered a vehicle and other items while the rest fled deep into Sambisa forest.”
