The Movement Against Negligence in Schools (MANIS), a Lagos-based not-for-profit organisation and internationally-recognised advocate and monitor of health and safety standards in schools, is set to provide a discourse platform for Education, Health and Safety Stakeholders on the all-important issue of Child Health and Safety in Schools. Tagged ‘2015 MANIS Child Health & Safety Week Summit’ and with the theme, ‘How Safe Is Your Child In School,’ the summit is billed to hold on November 20, 2015 at the NECA event centre in Ikeja CBD, Lagos. The summit is part of the week-long activities to mark the 2015 MANIS Child Health Safety Week.
According to the Executive Director of MANIS, Mrs. Idorenyin Toye-Arulogun, the summit is in furtherance of the organisation’s mission to champion the cause of safer environments, better health management systems and more sensitive care providers in schools. Mrs. Toye-Arulogun’s emphasised that the frequency of injuries, incapacitations, disabilities and deaths owing to negligence is high in Nigerian schools. “As a result of this, we at MANIS have resolved to provide solutions and platforms in an effort to step in to bridge the gap to mitigate and reduce to the barest minimum such occurrences,” she said.
News Express was informed that the summit will be featuring speakers from the Education, Health and Safety sectors including Mrs. Adun Akinyemiju, Proprietor of Dansol High School; Mrs. Olabisi Ariyo, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education; Dr (Mrs.) Ronke Akinlemibola, a medical practitioner and Parents Teachers Association Chairperson; Dr Gertrude Ogunkeye of Childcare Paediatric Hospital; Mrs. Fayo Williams, a safety professional and trainer; as well as Mr. Fouad Oki, the Director General of the Lagos Safety Commission.
The summit is expected to attract parents, educators, students, safety professionals and law enforcement agents
