The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Nasarawa State Chapter, on Tuesday gave the State Government a seven-day ultimatum to implement the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), for its members.
This is contained in a communiqué signed by the State Chairman, Omolei Friday, the Secretary, Attah Peter, and the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Anazolo Michael in Lafia.
The communiqué stated that the ultimatum was due to the inability of the Government to correct and implement the abnormalities on the CONMESS after one year of agreeing to do so.
It said the Government also refused to implement outstanding promotions and annual increments for doctors in its service since 2011 till date which led to career retrogression.
It stated that despite the underpayment of doctors, the government still imposed heavy taxes on medical and dental doctors.
The communiqué pointed out that there was serious disparity in the salaries of medical and dental doctors in the state which needed to be corrected with immediate effect.
It further noted that the development had forced no fewer than 67 doctors to leave the services of the state in the last four months with no fewer than 50 others set to leave by December if the problems persisted.
According to the communiqué, the seven days ultimatum followed the expiration of an earlier two weeks ultimatum issued to the government.
It stated that association members would withdraw their services for three days in all government hospitals if the administration failed to respond at the end of the ultimatum. (NAN)
