The mother of head coach of Nigeria’s U-23 football team, Samson Siasia, Mrs Beauty Siasia, has been kidnapped.
Unidentified gunmen stormed the family residence of the Siasia’s in the early hours of Tuesday at Odoni community of Sagbama Local Council Area of Bayelsa and forcefully whisked away Siasia's mother on a motorcycle.
Bayelsa Police Command spokesperson, ASP Ansinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said that the matter has been reported, but details were still sketchy.
His words: "At about 0020hrs, 16 November, 2015, three Unknown gunmen wentto the residence of one Mrs Beauty Siasia 72yrs, at Odoni Community inSagbama LGA, and abducted her to an unknown destination.The command has intensified efforts to rescue the kidnapped victim andarrest the suspects."
It was gathered that the kidnappers had fired warning shots to scare residents before abducting the 72 year old to an unknown destination.
Meanwhile, sports enthusiasts in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, have called for the unconditional release of Siasia's mother to enable him concentrate on qualifying the national Under-23 team for the forthcoming Rio Olympics.
Mr Chinedu Ordu, a footbal follower who condemned the act, described Siasia as a patrotic Nigerian who spent his hard earned money to ensure the success of his team and does not deserve such a raw deal from a cou try he has sacrifieced to serve.
