The Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, has proposed a legal framework that will speed up transition of power from one government to another after a general election.
The Information Minister made the proposal in his keynote address at a gathering of government officials and officials of the National Democratic Institute, in Abuja on Monday.
The forum was convened to review the weaknesses, strengths and challenges of the current transition practice in Nigeria.
After highlighting the challenges of the last transition, especially the delays experienced after the presidential election was won by the All Progressives Congress, the Minister expressed confidence that such framework would help to address the challenges faced.
While advocating for smooth and speedy transition of power from one government to another in the future, the Minister also noted that such transition framework is needed both at the state and the federal government level.
The Country Director of the National Democratic Institute, Jasper Veen, also aligned with the Minister on the need to set up a legal framework for the transition of power from one government to the other.
Other participants at the forum also believe that such transition framework is important in a democratic environment. (Channels TV)
