Nigerian-born midfielder star Ndubuisi Agu, who plies his trade with European football giants FC Porto, has declared his readiness to don the colours of the Nigerian national team if called upon to do so.
The young and exciting player, who was recently promoted from the youth team of the Portuguese outfit into the senior side, told Transport & Business Express in an exclusive chat that it would be a dream come true to play for any of the cadres of the Nigerian national team.
“I am hoping to represent Nigeria someday. It is always a thing of pride to play for your country of birth,” he said.
Agu has tasted international glory with Nigeria before, though. He was named the best player of the Coca Cola-sponsored COPA Cup for grassroots teams in Africa, which took place in South Africa in 2009.
“Since my days as a young player for my grassroots club, BJ FC, it has always been my dream to play at the Under-17, Under- 23, and even the senior national levels for Nigeria,” he stated.
The creative midfielder who is just back from Switzerland where he and his team had their pre-season camping, hopes to have a good season with the current Portuguese champions, Porto, to justify his promotion to the club’s senior team.
“I really want to do my best to be a regular starter for Porto and help them retain the Portuguese title,” he told Transport & Business Express.
If things go well as he expects, Agu would become Nigeria’s first ever regular for FC Porto, who won the UEFA Champions League in 2004 under the tutelage of Coach Jose Mourinho a.k.a The Special One.
