Labour Party has approved Obi-Datti Traders Congress as one of its support groups for the prosecution of the 2023 general elections.

Obi-Datti Traders Congress comprise of traders in most of the major markets in Lagos State who want to ensure that Peter Obi would emerge as Nigeria’s president next year.

A letter signed by Comrade Kayode Salako, Chairman of Labour Party, Lagos State chapter, stated that the party’s Directorate of State Mobilization has approved the operations and activities of Obi-Datti Traders Congress as a support group to engage in state mobilization towards the 2023 general elections, within the terms and conditions approved, to secure victory for the party in the 2023 general elections.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of Obi-Datti Traders Congress, Ichie Ikechukwu Obiora, said that traders in the major markets in Lagos State no longer want to sit on the fence as Nigeria continues to go from bad to worse.

According to him, the last eight years have been hell for everybody in the commercial sector of the economy.

He said that one of the biggest challenges that Nigeria was having as a country was the neglect of commerce, adding that any country that neglects its commerce could never survive.

According to him, the reason why they decided to mobilize Nigerians for Peter Obi is because he is the most credible, as well as the most competent of all the presidential candidates.

“With the state of things in Nigeria today, borrowing money to pay salaries and wallowing in trillions of debit, require somebody who is frugal and also prudent to save the situation,” Ichie Obiorah said.

According to him, “Peter Obi’s life style of simplicity, honesty and experience is what Nigerians needs to bounce back again as the giant of Africa.”

“Going by the numerous challenges that are confronting Nigerians and Nigeria at this point, we, traders in the major markets in Lagos state, have resolved to come together to support the candidacy of Peter Obi for the 2023 presidential election. Our resolution is based on the fact that he is the most credible, most reliable as well as the most competent of all the presidential candidates. The commercial sector of the economy is suffering a great deal and most of the importers are no longer importing as a result of scarcity of forex as well as astronomical exchange rate. There is no way we can continue like this. So, I am using this opportunity tell all Nigerians to put sentiment aside and support Peter Obi because he is the only one among the presidential candidates that has the capacity to turn things around in the country.”Ichie Obiora added.
