Lead British International School holds Cultural Day

It was indeed an exceptional cultural day at the Lead British International School (LBIS), when pupils, parents, teachers and visitors gathered to experience and enjoy the exciting display of cultural activities over the weekend.

This year’s cultural day celebration was entitled: ‘Celebrating Nigeria Cultural Heritage and food,’ an event held in the school premises, located at Wole Soyinka Avenue, Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja.

With their colourful beads, beautiful ear-rings and trendy traditional attires, children from various geo-political zones were allowed to express themselves in dance, songs and other activities associated with varied cultures in the country.

Also, the pupils’ different presentations such as riddles; quiz; folk tales; et cetera, were projected to show the uniqueness in different cultures as enacted by the early years children of the school.

Foreign pupils too were not left out of the show as those from Pakistan, India, Italy too were given the floor to speak and teach participants their languages and bit of their cultural ethics.

Also, different foods, ranging from South-West; North-West; North-East and North-Central delicacies, were served to visitors by the parents and organisers of the event.

The guest speaker at the event, Mrs A.K Justina, who represented the Director-General of National Commission for Museum and Monument, spoke on ‘Culture and Social development.’

Delivering her address, she said: “I am so much happy when children display culture which is a unifying factor in the country. Without culture, we cannot have a social development.”

She defined culture as a set of attitudes, values and beliefs of a group of people, from one generation to the other.

While emphasising on moral attitudes to culture, she advised parents to teach their wards on the aspect of respect and dressing, saying ‘Dressing is part of our culture.’

Justina explained further that “Social development starts from home, and language plays a vital role in it. I beseech parents here today to always ensure that their children are being interacted with in their mother's tongue when at home. But they can be speaking foreign languages when they get to their different schools.”

She also spoke on social behaviour, saying that prostrating to parents, cooperating with one another in schools and outside is key to bring cohesion into relationships.

The school pride itself as the second best expensive academy, which offers qualitative education to Early years; Primary; Secondary School and Pre-University pupils in Abuja.
