A total of 30 boxers drawn from across the country have been invited by the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) for a two-day trial holding at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Gym, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on October 12 and 13, 2022.

The trials are aimed at selecting the boxers that would represent Nigeria at the forthcoming International Boxing Association (IBA) Under-18 World Youth Boxing Championship holding from November 14 to 26, 2022 at the Giudad Camilo Camp Arena, Spain.

A statement from the office of the Secretary General of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Dapo Akinyele, further explained that the 30 boxers (17 males and 13 females), were invited based on merit in accordance with their performance at the last National Youth Games (NYG).

Vice President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Hon. Azania Omo-Agege Siena who is also the Vice President of the Africa Boxing Confederation (ABC), said Nigeria’s participation in International Boxing Association (IBA) programmes especially at the youth level such as the forthcoming IBA is very significant as it will help in developing boxing in the country hence the need for the trials to pick the boxers.

He added that those who excel at the end of the two-day trials will be camped for adequate training ahead of Championship. (Daily Independent)
