Three female suicide bombers this morning blew themselves up in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State in Nigeria’s troubled North-East. The fourth member of the suicide bomber squad was apprehended but later died, a spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said.
“Four female suicide bombers at about 7:45am today in the morning attempted to enter a Dala Ajeri area of Maiduguri but were intercepted by the Civilian JTF (joint military task force),” Sani Datti said in a statement.
“Three of the female suicide bombers detonated the explosions in their bodies immediately and the fourth one was intercepted but later died,” he said.
Datti said said a member of the Civilian JTF was killed and 10 injured in the blast. Six of the injured had been treated and discharged from the hospital, he said.
The incident happened a day after at least 55 people were killed in suicie bombing missions in Maiduguri and neighbouring Yobe State.
The attacks bear the imprimatur of Boko Haram terrorists who have sustained a campaign of terror largely in the North-East since 2009, killing thousands of innocent citizens in their purported bid to enthrone Islamic rule in the region.
