Breaking News: Nigerian Airforce jet crashes (Plus photo of victims)

It was yet another sad day for Nigeria today as an Alpha jet belonging to the country’s Air Force crashed in Niamey, capital of neighbouring Niger Republic.

Two officers, Squadron Leader Adoo and Flying Officer Layelmenson (both seen in photo courtesy African Spotlight) lost their life in the crash, according to Defence spokesman Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes Brig.-Gen. Olukolade as saying that the jet was involved in military operations against insurgents in Mali.

Niger’s Minister of Defence meanwhile confirmed that a military plane from Nigeria crashed earlier today in western Niger, killing its two-man crew.
