The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Kano State branch, has attributed the fuel scarcity being experienced in the state to inability of its members to transport the commodity.

The IPMAN Chairman in the state, Alhaji Bashir Danmalam, made the remark while fielding questions from newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.

He said the deplorable condition of some roads on the way to the state had compelled most of their tanker drivers to stop plying the roads.

“Some of the drivers spend a week before passing the dilapidated area and this had contributed in no small measure toward preventing drivers from using the road for their own safety.”

According to him, the union had already written to the Federal Government on their plight with a view to addressing the problem.

“We have also written to the Governor, Police commissioner, AIG, Director DSS, DPR and other relevant agencies on the ugly situation we found ourselves.

“We cannot transport the commodity in view of the situation we found ourselves now.”

NAN reports that most of the filling stations in Kano metropolis have remained shut as black marketers continue to exploit the situation.

A four-litre gallon of fuel which used to cost N500 at the black market now sells at between N600 and N650. (NAN)
