No less than five persons were feared killed in an auto crash involving an L300 bus and a Mack trailerat Odumodu Junction Nteje along Enugu – Onitsha Expressway. The accident happenedaround 4:00 p.m. yesterday.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that five died and 12 others injured and rushed to nearby hospitals after the collision of with Mack Trailer with registration number XB 379 KPE with the commercial bus marked AWK 276 XB. The accident was caused by the failure of the brake of the trailer carrying palm kernel oil.
Confirming the story, Anambra police spokesperson Emeka Chukwuemeka said: “Yes, we heard it and our men are on it. We have it on record that five people were killed and 12 people were hospitalised.”
However, theSector Commnader of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Hyginus Omeje, said nobody died but confirmed 12 injured. He blamed the accident on the recklessness of the truck driver leading to brake failure.
“Yes, my people were on ground and I can confirm that nobdoy died in the accident but 12 people were injured –six females and six males – and they were taken to Beatrice Hospital Umunya and Chira Hospital Awkuzu,” Omeje stated.
