The Electronic Payment Providers Association of Nigeria (E-PPAN) on Monday urged operators and regulators of Point of Sales (PoS) terminals to create more awareness about the machines, to increase its patronage.

The E-PPAN Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mrs. Onajite Regha, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that increased awareness would help increase acceptance of e-payment options in the country.

Regha regretted that many Nigerians were still not conversant with the mode of operation of e-payment options.

She said continuous sensitisation, workshops, and campaigns should be organised to help allay fears of people who still had doubts about the transparency of the e-payment system.

Regha said that lack of proper enlightenment on the part of the operators was a reason why majority of people were still ignorant of the service.

“We need to increase our capacity to accommodate the number of banked and even unbanked in Nigeria under the e-payment scope.”

According to her, the association has discovered from previous campaigns on the cashless policy that the masses are excited to hear about the payment system.

The E-PPAN CEO said that regulators, apart from creating awareness, should also make efforts to ensure that the machines work effortlessly.

“It is no doubt that awareness creation helps to get the buy-in of the masses.

“However, you cannot expect someone who gets disappointed when using a payment option on several occasions to continue patronising the same option.

“With this, I believe the acceptance level will increase.” (NAN)
