APGA 2023 Presidential Candidate, Prof Umeadi
The Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the 2023 general election, Prof. Peter Umeadi, has received a major boost as the Association of South East Past President-Generals (ASEP) has once again re-declared their endorsement for his ambition.
The endorsement was a major highlight of the association’s second quarterly enlarged meeting held in Enugu recently.
According to the National President of the Association, Mazi Omife I. Omife, a resolution was also passed to support the APGA presidential candidate through aggressive grassroots mobilization of Igbos in all the autonomous communities in Igbo land.
He said that the three-agenda meeting deliberated extensively on the current political and security situation in the country as it affects Igbo land as well as the prospects for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction in the forthcoming elections.
According to him, in the course of the deliberations, the association unanimously adopted a motion jointly sponsored by 26 members from Ebonyi, Anambra and Enugu states to give their support to the APGA Presidential candidate, Prof. Umeadi.
His words: “The resolution was based on Prof. Umeadi’s dignified and non-controversial mode of political consultation across the country, his wide outreach, his broad-based acceptability in most parts of the country across tribal and religious divided and more importantly, his affiliation with the only Igbo-based party in the current political set up which will promote Igbo political identity in Nigerian political landscape.”
Omife said that the association also resolved to support other candidates from other parties in the south-east states for other elective positions other than the presidency based on merit, adding that the association mandated its members from the respective states to begin to monitor and identify candidates with requisite credentials of personal integrity and meritorious service to the society to give their support.
On the growing insecurity in Igbo land as manifested in the increasing rate of unknown gun men and kidnapping for ransom by suspected youths in most south east states, he said that the association called on Igbo governors to convene an Igbo security summit as a matter of urgency to discuss on how to defend Igbo land against rampaging criminals.
According to him, the association has scheduled October this year for what it called a convention of all conventions to be held in Enugu.
He said that some governors in the south east and leaders of Ohanaeze would be present to address the convention.
