Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has explained why he travelled abroad for medical attention after the April 19 car accident that left him with minor injury. Okorocha had been criticised by some Nigerians for seeking treatment overseas when he claims to have revamped the healthcare facilities in the state.
Briefing newsmen yesterday at the Government House Owerri upon his return from a week-medical trip to United Kingdom, the governor revealed that he was earlier treated ina hospital at Orlu but the fact that the cut he suffered was on the fore head necessitated his travelling abroad for thorough re-examination in a specialist hospital.
“I am back and I am healthy. I am grateful to God Almighty,” Okorocha said.
He said he has forgiven Mr Osita Patrick Nnewuihe, the man whose car ran into his convoy while on project inspection at Owerri – Orlu Road, promising that he would not be charged to court.
The governor announced a gift of N200,000 to Nnewuihe to use and repair his Mercedes Benz 200 that was damaged in the accident. He however urged road users to drive carefully and to avoid driving when drunk, stressing that what happened to him could happen to any other person.
The governor commended his deputy, Prince Eze Madumere, and other members of the Executive Council for competently running the affairs of the state in his absence. He also thanked Imo people who prayed for his quick recovery.
Earlier, Mr. Nnewuihe thanked God for the safe return of Owelle Okorocha and also expressed gratitude to the governor for his magnanimity.
