Imo Govt pays stipend to school children, equips public schools

The Imo StateGovernment has flagged off the payment of stipend to school children as well asthe distribution of school materials to public schools in the state.

While flagging off the programme at Owerri City School, the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, said the exercise is aimed at encouraging school children in their studies and further create conducive environment for learning.

The governorwho was represented by his wife, Nneoma Nkechinyere Okorocha, said each secondary school student will receive N500 per term while every primary school pupil is to receive N300 for the same period.

“I am here to flag off the payment of your stipend. Of course, you know that the governor loves you so much with much interest in your education and future. His watchword to students is hard work,” the governor’s wife told the students

Mrs. Okorocha described education as a vital instrument to a child’s development, promising that the present administration would remain committed to transforming the education sector.

She, however, enjoined the students to be hardworking and respect their elders to enable them become good ambassadors of the country.

“I see in you a fulfillment of great things to come. Therefore, you must not fail. To succeed, you much be guided by the following values: hard work, honesty, respect for elders, service to your fatherland, upholding the tenets of your mother tongue and being prayerful,” she said.

In her speech, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Adaobi Obasi, urged the students to desist from cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and act capable of destroying their future.

Also speaking, the Assistant Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Ebuchie Christiana, commended Governor Okorocha for the wonderful gesture and prayed God to continue to give him the wisdom to govern Imo State alright.
