Peter Obi L and Tinubu
All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has sparked out a verbal war after saying publicly that Peter Obi’s Labour Party, LP, and others will labour till death.
Tinubu, who is also the national leader of Nigeria’s ruling APC, kicked off a storm when he said that Labour Party and the likes are mushroom parties.
Tinubu made the statement on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, when he and other APC chieftains and stalwarts stormed Osun State in a rally to campaign for the re-election of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
“Think about your children and vote accordingly, so you can see the future. Come out en masse.
“Don’t mind PDP and other mushrooms parties – parties like Labour; they will labour till they die. God will not make you labourers,” Tinubu had said.
Reacting to the statement, some tweeps, who are ‘Obidient’ (a term used to describe Peter Obi’s supporters), described Tinubu as being arrogant.
Reacting on Twitter, @UchePOkoye reacted: “Tinubu said Obidients will Labour till they die. But his children are buying up the choicest areas in New York at $2 million. This man is a definition of evil.”
@ManLikeIcey said: “Tinubu just called Labour Party, Accord Party and SDP mushroom parties in Osun, very arrogant man.”
“Tinubu said people will labour till they die,” @Maybeks tweeted. “A careless and insulting comment to political opponent(s).
“Tweeting for the record, because dead or alive, Tinubu will be trolled for this comment in future. When it happens, nobody should ask if people don’t have elders in their families.”
“Bola Ahmed Tinubu says Nigerians will labour in vain. This man is daring Nigerians. I urge everyone to be prepared to vote against BAT come 2023. Enough is enough.
“A man that doesn’t have the balls to do Muslim-Muslim ticket in Lagos, but want to Islamize us at the federal,” @NnaemekaEdeh1 said.
@ritoOclock asserted: “Tinubu is calling Labour Party a mushroom party. Someone that cannot speak to a large number of people without speaking Yoruba.
“How can this man move Nigeria forward? Buhari is better than this man.”
Reacting to Tinubu’s outburst the next day, Peter Obi refused to attack him in return.
Obi, who was in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to support the governorship candidate of the Labour party for the July 16 Osun poll, Lasun Yusuff, while addressing LP members, advised them that such a comment should be returned with love.
He said: “I listened to our chairman when he said that somebody said that ‘they can labour till death.’ When they show you hatred, Labour Party will show them love. There is dignity in labour.”
He also called on the people of Osun to support the party’s candidate in the governorship poll to give the state better leadership.
Addressing the rally, Yusuff said the comment about the Labour Party by the APC leader was inconsistent with the attributes of a virtuous Yoruba man.
He, however, promised to surprise those saying he would not get votes in Saturday’s election and urged LP members to work hard for victory at the poll.
“He came back yesterday and said we should go and labour till death. That is not an attribute of a virtuous Yoruba person. I described them as people with anonymous background, we don’t know them, their life is anonymous,” Yusuff stated.
