No fewer than 1,000 African Democratic Congress National Youth Council members have dumped the party.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Ralph Nwosu, on Tuesday.
Confirming the resignation and withdrawal from the party, the new media director, Salihu Abdulkadiri, said it became pertinent following the stark reality.
According to him, the reason for the resignation of over a thousand ADC national youth council was hinged on the poor handling of the party’s primary election.
The party had witnessed a gale of defections beginning from Professor Kingsley Moghalu, a former member and presidential aspirant who was defeated by Kachikwu Dumebi.
The statement partly read, “The ADC National Youth Council has been one of the bedrock in making the party strong. It has almost 200,000 members excluding the 30,000 office holders across 36 States.
“After due consultation with various stakeholders and more than 30 affiliated Youth Groups, the National Working Committee on behalf of all its members and the said affiliated groups hereby decided to withdraw its membership position from ADC,” it said.
Abdulkadiri who was also a candidate of the party for Gombe State House of Assembly said he will step down, alleging that the chairman promised more that he could deliver.
“This decision was taken as a result of the failed promises and lack of transparency to the African Democratic Party ADC Youth Council. Our problem is handling of the party primary. ADC primary is the worst primary.APC’s own is better.
“State chairman took delegates but they were merely on paper but not the actual people that voted. The party chairman just gave people tags with money to vote. If I win the election and after a court case, one may lose his seat, so what’s the point?” the Abdulkadiri added.(The PUNCH)
