Celebrated anti-fake drug warrior, Prof. Dora Akunyili, will today address a meeting of the US National Academies of Science holding in Washington DC, capital of the United States of America.
The high profile meeting would discuss the latest study on falsified and substandard drugs undertaken by the US National Academies of Science consensus committee, according to Gillian J. Buckley, Study Director, Board on Global Health, Institute of Medicine, Washington DC.
“The meeting would be co-hosted by the National Academies and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. It would be an honor to have you there; our guests would love to hear about your work against fake drugs in Nigeria,” Buckley said a letter of invitation to Akunyili dated March 28, 2013.
News Express reports that Prof. Akunyili has continued to be recognised globally for the work she did in combating fake medicines during her days as Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) from 2001 to 2008.
About a week ago, Akunyili was honoured on April 20 with the 2013 Award for Healthcare Leadership at the 8th Annual Gala of the Nigerian Healthcare Foundation and Hackensack University Medical Center held at the Robert Treat Hotelin downtown Newark, New Jersey, USA.
Prof. Akunyili, who is also Nigeria’ immediate past Minister of Information and Communications, had earlier been honoured on March 8 in Niamey, Niger Republic, with the International Active Woman Trophy (TIFAA NIGER), as part of this year’s celebration of the International Day of Women.
