Obi tasks Anambra traditional rulers

Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, says traditional rulers have a fundamental role to play in the development and stability of the society.

He made the statement while declaring open the second Anambra Traditional Rulers Seminar at the Traditional Rulers Council Hall, Government House, Awka.

The governor revealed that the seminar was organised to enable the royal fathers exchange ideas and brainstorm on issues that would enhance their roles in the society.

He recalled that his administration had sustained a cordial and harmonious relationship with traditional rulers since inception and has continued to provide all necessary support and assistance to encourage them.The governor reminded them of the need to uphold integrity and respect for their exalted position.He said that Anambra State is changing for better and has become a reference point in the country.

In his speech, the Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe, said the seminar would enable the participants improve in their conduct and roles in a rapidly changing world.He observed that Governor Obi’s administration has remarkably promoted the welfare of traditional rulers without interfering in the internal affairs of the council.

The royal father reminded his colleagues of their critical role in ensuring free and fair election by resisting the lure of partisanship irrespective of the size of material inducement.He noted that Governor Obi has enthroned peace and harmonious co-existence as well as created conducive business environment which future leaders should strive to sustain.

On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Sir Godfry Moutulu, said that Governor Obi has remained responsive to needs of the traditional rulers and has distributed over N3.5 billion to communities for security and palliative work on roads.Sir Godfry noted that the governor has equally continued to carry them along in policy and programme formulation and implementation.
