Amnesty Programme: Coordinator reassures beneficiaries of FG's commitment

The Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), retired Brig.-Gen Paul Boroh, has pledged his commitment to deliver on President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to ensure sustainable peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.

Boroh said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

He said that with a successful Amnesty Programme, the Niger Delta region would gather enough momentum to sustain its current pace of development.

According to him, substantial progress has been made to ensure that all contentious issues regarding the administration of the PAP were resolved.

Boroh assured the trainees that his office would ensure regular payment of their entitlements, including payment of in-training allowances and the fees of student trainees under the programme.

“We are working with relevant agencies of government to curb delays in the release of funds occasioned by the recent implementation of the Treasury Single Account Policy of the Federal Government.

“PAP office is vigorously pursuing partnerships with national and international groups to consolidate the re-integration component of the Programme.

“This has become quite necessary as more beneficiaries of the programme have successfully concluded their trainings and are expected to become functional and responsible members of society.”

NAN recalls that the Amnesty Programme was introduced by the late President Umaru Yar'adua on June 15, 2009, for Niger Delta militants, as a step towards resolving insecurity in the region. (NAN)
