The Atiku Global Mass Movement (AGMM) has hailed the emergence of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 elections.
The group described his emergence as well deserved and a true reflection of the will of Nigerians.
AGMM said in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its National Coordinator, Chief Hilary I. Nworie, that it is pleased “to congratulate His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (Waziri Adamawa), for securing the presidential ticket of Peoples Democratic Party in the primaries conducted on Saturday, 28th May, 2022, at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.”
Chief Nworie, who was a key member of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Committee during the 2019 presidential election, said that “Atiku’s victory represents the wishes of Nigerians in the forthcoming presidential election in 2023.”
He urged all the aspirants who lost to Atiku “and indeed all Nigerians to rally round the former Vice President to ensure his victory during the 2023 elections as Nigeria needs him to lead efforts to rescue the country from the precarious situation in which the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has put it.”
News Express the 75-year-old Atiku polled 371 votes to win the party’s ticket ahead of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, who scored 237 votes to come second in the contest.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki (70); Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel (38), Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed (38), Former Senate President Pius Anyim (14), Mrs Tari Diana Oliver (1), and Mr Sam Ohuabunwa (1) shared the remainder of the valid votes.
