The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Tuesday donated relief materials to victims of recent disaster in Bagana and Kupa communities in Kogi State.
The Abuja Area Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Ishaya Chonoko, who presented the materials to officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Lokoja, cautioned them not to divert the materials to other use.
He told some of the victims of the disaster, who were present at the presentation not to misconstrue the gesture as compensation.
Chonoko pledged that NEMA would always come to the aid of victims of disaster in any part of the country.
He appealed to Nigerians to be tolerant of each other and cultivate the habit of peaceful co-existence.
Some of the items donated included: 400 bags of rice, 900 pieces of blankets, 600 mats, 300 mattresses, 200 bags of cement and 300 pieces of buckets.
Others included 400 bundles of roofing sheets, 600 pieces of mosquito nets, bathing and washing soaps among others
AVM Gabriel Abdul (rtd) Special Adviser to Gov. Idris Wada on disaster management thanked NEMA for the gesture and promised that government would ensure fair distribution of the items to the victims.
The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Mrs. Florence Ogedegbe, urged leaders of the various communities in the state to take the issue of security seriously.
She urged them to take special interest in the movement of people in and out of their communities and report strange faces with questionable conduct to the nearest police station. (NAN)
