The Nigeria Customs Service has alerted its stakeholders and the public that it was not recruiting personnel or auctioning seized vehicles currently.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Service Deputy Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joseph Attah, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Attah said that the reminder was necessary to prevent Nigerians from being defrauded by criminal elements.

According to him, fraudsters have opened a fake Facebook account in the name of the Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ali, advertising job vacancies, auction and contracts.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Nigeria Customs Service wishes to inform the general public and its stakeholders that the service is not undergoing any recruitment.

“Auction of seized vehicles or overtime cargo remains suspended until further notice.

“It is disheartening to note that despite several warnings, arrests and prosecutions, internet fraudsters are still using this online platform to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

“It is therefore imperative to advise people to stop patronising these seemingly juicy offers on the internet, promising job, auction and contracts upon payment of some amount of money into private accounts.

“While refusing to patronise them, you could also help the service to get rid of the fraudsters by reporting suspicious offers online and traditional media to the nearest customs formation.” (NAN)
