Jamaatu Nasril Islam (JNI) has called on all Imams to begin five days Al-Qunuut prayers in all their five daily prayers for ease and relief over last weekend’s massacre in Baga, a town in Borno State bordering Chad Republic.
In a press release in Kaduna signed by its Secretary-General, Dr. KhalidAbubakar Aliyu, the umbrella group of Nigerian Muslims described the attack reportedly carried out by a joint military force asa clear act of unleashing terror on helpless citizens.
According to the statement, the way things are unfolding now, Muslims have been put at the receiving end. It therefore called on them to come out with a loud voice and condemn the attack, which it described as un-called for, senseless and barbaric.
“After all, why should a villager in Baga, whose fellow Muslims had disproportionately suffered in the hands of the security agents in Maiduguri, be hacked to death as a result of sporadic gun attacks?” JNI asked.
It added that the dastardly act, from information made available to it, continued unabated for over 30 hours with several sprees of painful attacks on innocent residents of Baga, leaving behind hundreds of Muslim lives lost.
JNI called on the Federal Government and the Borno State Government to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime and punish them according to the law, adding that, the pervasive way security upheavals are being handled in Nigeria needs serious introspection.
“JNI further calls on security agencies to curtail the violence guided by the rules of engagement of the military by not using excessive force on the citizenry,” the statement further said.
