All Progressives Congress (APC) frontrunner for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Dr Onyinye Kay Rufus-Obi, has decamped to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
In a recent ceremony which was made more colourful by the myriad of people that thronged the Umuokogbuo Eluama Isuikwuato Townhall venue of the event, Dr Onyinye said she was elated to join APGA.
She noted that APGA is the party to beat now in Abia, especially with the crisis in the big parties.
Besides, she explained that she wanted to belong to a party that is fair and will afford her the right opportunity to represent her constituency.
Her decamping is coming amidst serious grapevine that the APC is planning to give automatic ticket to serving National Assembly members to pacify certain entrenched interests.
Analysts believe that the APC has shot itself on the foot by this ‘uncalulated move’, which is likely cost the party popular votes.
For Isuikwuato/Umunneochi constituency, there is a groundswell that the incumbent House of Reps member, Dr Nkeiru Onyejeocha, has overstayed and should give way for fresh minds.
Dr Onyinye said that “although Dr Onyejeocha has performed, she should allow fresh minds to take over to give the constituency quality representation.”
She was formally received into the party by APGA LGA executives and stakeholders.
