A cross section of 2023 South East APC presidential aspirants
Ahead of presidential primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) billed to hold next week Sunday, aspirants from the South East extraction are currently in a closed-door meeting.
The closed-door meeting, which is being held at the private resident of a former Imo State governor in Abuja, Rochas Okorocha, started at about 3:45pm.
Although the agenda of the meeting was yet to be made public but an aide to Okorocha who doesn’t want his name in print told Daily Trust that the meeting was centred on how to pick a consensus candidate among the aspirants from the zone.
”South East is serious about producing President of this country this time around. This makes our leaders to convene this meeting in order to have a common ground. I can assure you that the zone will push forward an aspirant who is nationally acceptable,” the aide said.
Those in attendance include a immediate past Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu; former minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; a former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; Okorocha and the only female aspirant, Uju Ohanenye.
As at when filing this report, Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi, who is also eying the seat and expected to be at the meeting, was yet to arrive.
The ruling APC is currently considering to opt for consensus among the aspirants who obtained presidential forms and eying the number one seat in the country. (Daily Trust)
