World Bank, EU grant N136.2m to 5 Delta LGAs

The Delta World Bank and European Union sponsored State Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) has disbursed N136.2 million to 138 Fadama User Groups in five local government areas for the establishment of sub-projects.

The State Co-ordinator of SEEFOR project, Mr. Benson Ojoko, made the disclosure during a meeting with the chairmen of the 25 local governments of the state and the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. John Nani, in Asaba on Saturday.

Ojoko said that the beneficiary local government areas were Bomadi, Burutu, Udu, Warri South and Warri South West, which were not initially covered by Fadama III projects.

He also said that 14 communities in the five local government areas benefitted from its Community-Driven Development social stream to the tune of N45.3 million.

The co-ordinator said that under the SEEFOR project, more than 35km of roads had been constructed in the state since the commencement of the programme in 2012.

According to Ojoko, apart from roads, the programme has also constructed more than 25km of drainage infrastructure.

“About 140km of roads were also maintained through regular sweeping, vegetation control, painting of kerbs and patching of potholes.”

Ojoko also said that six technical colleges under the State Ministry of Education received N20 million each likewise three vocational centres under the State Directorate of Youths to improve learning environment in the schools.

He said that the grants had impacted the students’ performance and enrolment positively.

Ojoko said that the project was expected to terminate in December 2017.

While commending the success recorded so far by SEEFOR, the commissioner stressed the need for proper environmental sanitation in the state.

Nani noted that the government would no longer tolerate incidences of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in any part of the state. (NAN)
