The romance between the Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano and members of the state House of Assembly appears to be tumbling down the hill as the elected members are currently crying foul over unpaid allowances.
According to an inside source, he said that the 28 days allowance paid to members everywhere after swearing-in has not been paid to them since assumption of office as well as furniture allowance.
He explained that the twenty eight day allowance was meant to cover their hotel bill while waiting for the state government to sort out their accommodation.
The source said, “It is not like the money is not there. I don’t understand. We are just keeping calm in order not to create chaos in the peace enjoyed in the state now. But I heard he will do something by next week. We wait and see.”
It was however alleged that for want of intervention, about sixteen members of the House took the matter to a certain influential business mogul in the state urging him to call the governor to order.
Feelers however have it that the governor has given a tangible promise hence the Lawmakers are keeping tab till next week to see if there would be they would be paid.
Despite the brewing bitterness, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Mrs. Rita Maduagwu, in a press statement made available to Journalists yesterday in Awka to mark 100 days of inauguration of the State House of Assembly promised continued support of the executive by the entire House in order to move the state to greatness.
He commended Gov. Obiano for his purposeful leadership evident in the massive development going on in the state adding that the state legislators would continue to play its roles towards peaceful and good governance in the state.
While praying God to guide the Lawmakers throughout their tenure in office, Maduagwu enumerated some of the achievement of the House within 100 days of inauguration to include among other things the passage of an amendment bill for the provision of housing and employment of the citizenry.
